BGISD Bond Update: Elementary Parking Lot Progress

Our focus this week is the new Elementary parking lot!

Take a look at the video to see the progress Bounds Commercial Construction is making. This project is about much more than adding parking spaces. It is designed to improve parking capacity, traffic flow, and safety for our students, staff, families, and visitors.

One of the most noticeable improvements is simply the size. The new parking lot will be more than three times larger than our previous parking lot. We have also designated an overflow parking area, which our staff is currently using. On days when we have large events, staff parking can be moved to the overflow area, allowing us to maximize the number of spaces available for parents, grandparents, and other visitors.

Another major improvement will be traffic flow and emergency access. Once the parking lot is complete, we will have the ability to double-stack traffic headed toward our front entrance drop-off area, helping us move vehicles onto campus and off the highway more efficiently.

Most importantly, the new design includes a designated emergency lane that will remain open at all times. Historically, as traffic begins to stack during arrival and dismissal, access for emergency vehicles has been a concern. When construction is complete, emergency responders will always have a clear path to access the campus, even during our busiest traffic times.

We are making great progress, and our goal is to have the parking lot completed in time to open the campus for our September Grandparents Day and Book Fair events. We will share those schedules as soon as we know construction has progressed to the point that we can safely accommodate these events.
