FRIDAY BOND CONSTRUCTION UPDATE!
This week, our focus shifts to the new construction and renovations coming to Blooming Grove High School and Junior High!
Last night at our regularly scheduled Board meeting, Claycomb Architects presented the 100% design documents for the High School and Junior High projects. The Board unanimously approved the designs, marking another major step forward as we move closer to construction!
There is A LOT included in these projects, but this week we want to highlight one area that we are especially excited about — Career and Technical Education (CTE).
CTE PROGRAMS
CTE continues to be a major focus for us at Blooming Grove ISD.
Our bond projects will support programs including Agricultural Science, Welding, Vet Tech, Floral Design, Culinary Arts, and Health Science (nursing). These are areas where we have already seen tremendous growth, and we want our facilities to support that growth.
Our goal is not simply to add programs. We want to build high-quality programs that give our students real skills, certifications, and opportunities after graduation.
Even more importantly, we want these programs to connect our students, school, and community.
NEW AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE BUILDING
One of the biggest pieces of our CTE expansion will be a brand-new Agricultural Science building located in the south parking lot of the High School.
This new facility will include three classrooms, our Welding shop, and dedicated lab spaces for both our Vet Tech and Floral Design programs.
What makes this facility even more exciting is the opportunity to connect our students' learning directly to our community. The Floral Design area will provide community access for purchasing student-created floral arrangements, while the Vet Science area will provide opportunities for our students to develop hands-on skills while offering veterinary-related services to our community as part of their educational program.
Our students won't simply learn about these careers. They will get opportunities to actually do the work.
This is exactly what we want CTE to look like at Blooming Grove ISD — students learning by doing, developing real-world skills, and connecting those skills back to the community that supports them.
CULINARY ARTS
As our new cafeteria is constructed, the current High School cafeteria will be completely renovated and transformed into the new home of our Culinary Arts program.
This space will include two dedicated classrooms along with a fully operational café that we plan to open periodically to the public.
This is where we believe the real value of this space comes to life. Our students won't just learn about the culinary industry from a textbook. They will prepare the food, serve customers, operate the café, and help run a legitimate business.
That means learning how to show up on time, communicate with customers and coworkers, manage responsibilities, solve problems, work as a team, and take pride in the product they put in front of someone. These are real-world skills learned through real-world experiences.
And the impact goes beyond students who plan to enter the culinary industry. Not every student in this program will become a chef or work in a restaurant and that is okay. Every one of them will eventually enter the workforce.
Our goal is simple: when our students leave Blooming Grove ISD, we want them ready for the real world, not experiencing it for the first time.
HEALTH SCIENCE
Our Health Science program is another area where we are thinking bigger than simply creating a classroom.
The project includes a state-of-the-art Health Science lab designed to simulate real healthcare environments, including lifelike hospital and ICU room settings. Our students will be able to learn and practice in an environment that more closely reflects what they will experience when they enter the healthcare field.
Just like our other CTE programs, we also want this space to have a direct connection to our community. Our vision is to establish partnerships that will allow our new facility to be used for opportunities such as community wellness exams, while giving our students exposure to real-world healthcare experiences.
Everything about this space is designed around one goal: making our students job-ready.
Students in our Health Science pathway have the opportunity to graduate from Blooming Grove High School with medical certifications, giving them the ability to enter the healthcare workforce directly out of high school if that is the path they choose. Others may use those same experiences and certifications as the first step toward college, nursing, or other healthcare careers.
We aren't simply building a Health Science classroom. We are building a bridge between our students, our community, and the healthcare workforce.
This space will be completed by renovating current High School classrooms.
THE BIG PICTURE
Our community becomes part of the classroom, and our students get experiences that prepare them for what comes next.
The approval of the 100% design documents is another major milestone, and we are excited to continue moving from plans on paper to facilities our students will use for years to come.
There is A LOT coming to Blooming Grove ISD, and we cannot wait for our community to see it!
